Description
The cabinet the range is drawn from, and the one most people start with. A glazed upper section over a solid base cupboard with its own lock, a hand-carved dentil cornice and fluted stiles. One to five doors, four to twenty shotguns, or three to fifteen with scopes. 3mm mild steel throughout, folded steel doors whose folded return passes behind the frame on the hinge side, 8-lever safe locks to EN 1300 Class A rated VdS Class 1 with each bay secured independently, and a separate lockable ammunition compartment with its own lock. Racks are cut to your gun list. Available in oak, character oak, pippy oak, walnut, mahogany or painted. Character oak adds about 8% and pippy oak about 12%; every price is published on the range pages. Prices include VAT. Delivery and fitting by our own team is included in the price. What is the cabinet made from?
A folded and continuously welded 3 mm mild steel container, with 3 mm in every panel: top, base, both sides, back and every door. There is no thinner panel anywhere in the enclosure. The timber case is built around it and does no security work.
What holds the door if the hinges are cut off?
The door’s folded return passes behind the frame down the full height of the hinge edge, so the leaf is hooked into the aperture. Cut the hinges and it still cannot be drawn forward; it would have to come out sideways, and the locking at head and foot prevents that.
What lock does it use?
A Lowe & Fletcher 3012 eight-lever safe lock, VdS Class 1, with 80,000 differs and anti-pick levers. The bolts throw vertically into lugs set beyond the folded frame, so no part of the locking is in the shut line. Full-height doors commonly take a three-point security lock.
What glass is in the glazed doors?
ESG Secure™ 113/26T, a 26 mm laminated security panel, rated beyond the top class of EN 356 for manual attack, LPS 1270 rating 113 and EN 1063 BR2. It is bedded directly into the folded steel door section, never into the timber. The certificates belong to the glass, not to the cabinet, and we say so in writing.
Is the ammunition kept separately?
Yes. Ammunition has its own compartment with its own lock, independent of the firearms compartment and built to the same standard.
How is it fixed?
Into masonry or structural timber at not fewer than four points, never into plasterboard alone, and never into a stud partition without additional anchorage. We deliver and install every cabinet ourselves and record the fixings on the handover sheet.
Is it police approved, or made to BS 7558?
There is no police approval scheme for gun cabinets in the United Kingdom, and BS 7558 is no longer a maintained standard, so we claim neither. We state what we build in figures and put the drawn specification to your firearms enquiry officer before anything is made.
